Video formats for web

We are often asked to provide our, ahem, expert advice on video formats for web.  The short answer is that there is no single video format that is supported globally across all browsers.  With responsive and adaptive design being the new standard in content delivery, we have to aim for canvassing a much larger audience and range of devices, which means preparing each video in 3 different formats - mp4, webm, ogv.  Table below provides a quick overview of browsers supporting each format.

OpenSSL advisory, CVE-2014-0224

A new vulnerability in OpenSSL, CVE-2014-0224, was reported yesterday 6/5/14.  This should not be a concern for any of our customers, as we updated OpenSSL the same day and sites under our management are fully protected.

Posting to Facebook and LinkedIn from your site

Having the best site on the web is no guarantee it will be found and appreciated.  You have to actively promote it and one of the best ways to increase the site’s visibility is to drive traffic through major social networks, such as Facebook and LinkedIn.  However, that calls for increased marketing efforts, even if it is simply coping and pasting same content across different sites.

Microsoft ends support for Windows XP, and so goes Internet Explorer 8

On April 8, 2014, Microsoft officially ended support for Windows XP operating system, which was a long time coming - after all, those Windows 8.1 packages are not going to sell themselves.  With that, the entire suite of software products associated with older OS, including IE8, lost support and future critical updates and currently presents a potential security issue.
