Our approach to frameworks is that there's a tool for every job. In case of WordPress, it is a very good solution for very simple sites based on an existing theme, with functionality and layout requirements not exceeding theme's original capabilities. It works particularly well for blogs and small informational sites. WordPress is not well suited for complex projects that require theme or module customization, as there are more efficient ways to build either using more advanced framework or through custom coding.
Known shortcomings of WordPress include frequent core and plugin update, both of which might negatively impact entire customization of a site. Security is another major issue, as WordPress sites are famed for being susceptible to vulnerabilities through plugin exploits. These and other WordPress issues are usually addressed by keeping customization to a minimum and being highly selective in the use of 3rd party modules.
