Here’s a quick script solution we put together for everyone dealing with large volume product photography, with objects shot against solid color backgrounds. It is actually a collection of three scripts - AppleScript, JavaScript and Photoshop action - that performs the task.
To use it:
1. Download script archive for Mac or PC
2. unZip archive
3. Load "OSS_remove_Background.atn" into Photoshop actions (keep Photoshop open)
4. Run “Photoshop_remove_background” app from unZippped folder
How it will work:
- The app will prompt you for folder to process
- Once folder is selected, you will see each image in the folder being processed in Photoshop, with background removed and resulting file save back in the same folder as *.psd
What does it do:
- AppleScript automates all processes
- JavaScript file selects color from top left corner of the canvas using Magic Wand
- Photoshop action selects similar color and removes it from the image
Magic Wand and selection settings can be adjusted both in editable JavaScript file and Photoshop action to reflect specific color variations of each batch of photographs. Processed PSD files can be then batch converted to another image format.
